Health and Wellbeing

Hello again!

As you probably know, health and wellbeing is highly important with every one; but this post is focusing on teens and young adults.

Sleep is vital! Not only does it stop us from being grumpy the next day, but it also helps us perform tasks safely and properly. Remember the phrase "I need my beauty sleep"? Well, sleep CAN make you look better! It can improve how your skin looks, it can lighten your appearance, and it can stop you from getting those annoying bags and dark circles under your eyes.

Here are some tips to help you sleep better:

-Keep lights low for 30 minutes before you go to sleep.
-Aim for at least 9 to 10 hours of sleep each night.
-Caffeine can still affect you 10 hours after its consumed (according to The Sleep Council) try drinking herbal teas, or drinks without caffeine.
-Turn off all screens 1 hour before bed, as they emit blue light, which wakes up your brain.
-When you wake up each morning, go straight outside and soak up some sun, it will tell your brain to be awake at this time. TIP: try drinking your morning coffee outside on a bench!
-Don't eat strong foods right before bed. for example, spicy foods.
-Have a consistent bed time and wake up time.

I will admit that I have been a bit sleep deprived for the past while. (for the reason mentioned below) But, I am changing it! I'm changing my routine a bit so I can get into bed on time and actually get a good amount of sleep! I have been doing this for over a week now, and I feel great! I am finding it easier and easier to get out of bed, and I feel a lot better in the mornings too!

What other every-day activities affect our health?

SOCIAL MEDIA

Almost everyone uses social media and you rarely have friends who don't use it. EVERYONE uses it.
LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT:
I'm not bagging social media, I'm just commenting on how it is being used by a lot of teens.
Go to famous land marks, and there are people taking selfies.
Go to a nice cafe, and there are people taking pictures of their food.
Social media is taking over our lives!
Social media can have a major effect on our lives.

I never realised how much I was using social media. It wasn't until friends talked to me about it, that I realised: I had too, become a slave to the monster that is Social Media.
I then reflected on how much I was using it and I realised that I had changed my behaviour since recently.
These are some of the ways my behaviour had changed:
-Started staying up late, talking to people online.
-I started spending less time with family members.
-I started getting a little behind on my studies.
And a lot of other things happened.

Anxiety UK conducted a survey in 2012 on social media use and it's affect on emotions.
The survey found that two thirds of participants reported difficulty relaxing and sleeping after they used social media sites, while 55% said they felt "worried or uncomfortable" when they were unable to log onto their social media accounts.
My tip is, limit the amount of time you use social media, and spend time with people in real life, instead of through the internet..

This topic will be discussed more on another post in a couple of weeks.
I know that I only touched on two topics under Health and Wellbeing, but the posts that I am doing in the next few weeks will also talk about some things that relate to this post. Those posts will have the label "health and wellbeing".
Make sure you tube in this Sunday for the next post in the series!

See you then,
Nerdling :)
