#TwoTooMany

Hello all!
Pay attention! Because this is important, and you need to know!

I found out about this through Youth Parliament 2014 when this this speech was made:

I know that this is only a quick post, but it is really important that everyone knows that this is happening.
I recently attended a rally on the steps of the South Australian Parliament House for this campaign. During the rally, Kyle Rigney (a current year 10 student at Woodville High School) and Neo Pitso (a past student) performed a song for the cause. The song was amazing!
Here it is:

Here are the links to the Twitter page, Facebook page and the actual petition... Please sign it; it is a great cause, and what happened was completely wrong! We should welcome people into our country, not shut them out!

                            Change.org

                             Facebook

                              Twitter

I gotta go and work on the next post; but please, take the time to look into the issue, and like the page, sign the petition, and help these boys have a better future!

See ya soon,

Health and Wellbeing

Hello again!

As you probably know, health and wellbeing is highly important with every one; but this post is focusing on teens and young adults.
Source: nytimes.com
Sleep is vital! Not only does it stop us from being grumpy the next day, but it also helps us perform tasks safely and properly. Remember the phrase "I need my beauty sleep"? Well, sleep CAN make you look better! It can improve how your skin looks, it can lighten your appearance, and it can stop you from getting those annoying bags and dark circles under your eyes.

Here are some tips to help you sleep better:

-Keep lights low for 30 minutes before you go to sleep.
-Aim for at least 9 to 10 hours of sleep each night.
-Caffeine can still affect you 10 hours after its consumed (according to The Sleep Council) try drinking herbal teas, or drinks without caffeine.
-Turn off all screens 1 hour before bed, as they emit blue light, which wakes up your brain.
-When you wake up each morning, go straight outside and soak up some sun, it will tell your brain to be awake at this time. TIP: try drinking your morning coffee outside on a bench!
-Don't eat strong foods right before bed. for example, spicy foods.
-Have a consistent bed time and wake up time.

I will admit that I have been a bit sleep deprived for the past while. (for the reason mentioned below) But, I am changing it! I'm changing my routine a bit so I can get into bed on time and actually get a good amount of sleep! I have been doing this for over a week now, and I feel great! I am finding it easier and easier to get out of bed, and I feel a lot better in the mornings too!

What other every-day activities affect our health?

SOCIAL MEDIA
Source: simpletranslation.com
Almost everyone uses social media and you rarely have friends who don't use it. EVERYONE uses it.
LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT:
I'm not bagging social media, I'm just commenting on how it is being used by a lot of teens.
Go to famous land marks, and there are people taking selfies.
Go to a nice cafe, and there are people taking pictures of their food.
Social media is taking over our lives!
Social media can have a major effect on our lives.

I never realised how much I was using social media. It wasn't until friends talked to me about it, that I realised: I had too, become a slave to the monster that is Social Media.
I then reflected on how much I was using it and I realised that I had changed my behaviour since recently.
These are some of the ways my behaviour had changed:
-Started staying up late, talking to people online.
-I started spending less time with family members.
-I started getting a little behind on my studies.
And a lot of other things happened.

Anxiety UK conducted a survey in 2012 on social media use and it's affect on emotions.
The survey found that two thirds of participants reported difficulty relaxing and sleeping after they used social media sites, while 55% said they felt "worried or uncomfortable" when they were unable to log onto their social media accounts.
My tip is, limit the amount of time you use social media, and spend time with people in real life, instead of through the internet..

This topic will be discussed more on another post in a couple of weeks.
I know that I only touched on two topics under Health and Wellbeing, but the posts that I am doing in the next few weeks will also talk about some things that relate to this post. Those posts will have the label "health and wellbeing".
Make sure you tube in this Sunday for the next post in the series!

See you then,
Nerdling :)

Post series (Plus, I have a new post system!)

Hello all! :)
First of all, I will tell you about this new "post system". I have created a system where I will have two types of posts. I will have:
-Full posts
and
-Quick posts

Full posts are posts with lots of content. and no, that doesn't mean I'm going to post 3 videos; it means I'm going to have writing, and discussion in the post!

a quick post, is a post that I can write quickly and publish quickly. It will be great for something quick to read or watch in between the full posts. It will mean that you will get to read posts more often!
To tell the difference between the two types:
-Full posts will have just the name of what the post will be about
-Quick post will have the name of what the post will be about, and in brackets it will say, "Quick Post"

NOW, ON TO WHAT THE POST IS REALLY ABOUT!

recently, a friend of mine suggested that I should do a series of posts that would be useful for the wellbeing of teens; aimed at teens.
There will be 4 posts, each being about:
-Health and Wellbeing
-Safety
-Self-respect
-Trust

they will each be posted once a week, on either the Saturday, or the Sunday!

I will post the first one within 24 hours!

See ya soon!

This post is my most recent one, and one of the posts that I am most proud of... I don't know why, it's probably because I put so much effort into it! :)

This video took ages, and even though it did, there are still improvements I could make. BUT STILL... I am super proud after all that effort! :)

Creepy Tourism Ads

Hello!

Let me get this straight: Tourism ads are meant to make you want to go to travel to places... But obviously the makers of these Australian tourism ads didn't get the memo.

I swear... That butler guy looks like a crazy lunatic... I'm never going to Victoria again...

Ok, this one looks ok.. until it shows the chick.. carrying a dead hen and plucking the feathers.. that's when it gets creepy.
It's like its saying, "Come bring your children to the Barossa, they can try cheeses, collect eggs, roll around in the dirt... *insert creepy voice here* kill chickens and rabbits, visit my basement where I keep all the dead bodies...

The backing track for the video is also creepy.. Apparently it's about a murder who is hiding his bloodied hand inside his coat... Because THAT'S a positive message.. :P

If you want a GOOD tourism ad, then check this out!

And fact of the day.. I was actually in the city watching them film this scene being filmed, I was just standing there, trying to work out what they were filming it for..

Anyway, talking about creepy videos, here's a story from my childhood:
Did you know that I have always hated watching the original 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' movie? It just always gave me the creeps. Here is the scariest scene in my opinion..

Woah, way to scary for a kids movie...

See you soon!

3. Divergent by Veronica Roth
Divergent is a book that is amazing!! A friend suggested it to me and it is really good! I WOULD EVEN SAY IT'S AS GOOD AS THE HUNGER GAMES!!

I will show you the trailer for the movie that is coming out early 2014! Make sure you read the book before you watch the movie!!

HOW COME LIONSGATE ALWAYS DOES THE AWESOME MOVIES???

4. Lemon Slice Recipe from Taste.com

5. 'Lose Yourself to Dance' by Daft Punk
I don't even need to say anything.. This is just awesome!

6. Trello (App/Website)

This app is amazing! You should check it out! It's an organisational app that CHANGES YOUR LIFE!!!
Here is a pic of how it looks on the website so you can have a snapshot about whats its about.
Picture from: www.heartofwisdom.com

Check out the website here: www.trello.com
IT helps you list things, sort things, remember things, share things, plan things. I even use it to plan my blog posts!! :) if your stuck on ideas for what to use it for, just search on youtube, there are hundreds of videos that explain stuff! :)

7. Banana smoothie/milkshake recipe

I found, what I think would have to be the BEST banana milkshake recipe!! It claims it's a smoothie, but I'd hate to see how many calories it has in it..

I found it in a book called, 'Smoothies' by Love Food. This is MY version of the recipe and I have added a few things to the recipe as well. The recipe is:

Banana Breakfast "Smoothie"

- 2 ripe bananas
- 200ml vanilla yogurt or some vanilla ice cream- 125ml milk
- 2 tsp honey

Chuck it all in a blender, and blend until smooth.

8. Frozen
Recently I went to the movies to see frozen! :)
It is now my favorite Disney movie. Here is the trailer so you can have a look at what it's about!

Here is my favorite song from the movie! Also, this is what was in the description of the video:
In this clip from Disney's "Frozen," Elsa, whose secret powers have just been revealed, flees Arendelle and unleashes her magic, creating a breathtaking ice palace. Performed by the voice of Elsa, Idina Menzel, "Let It Go" is an original song by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Tony Award®-winner Robert Lopez.

I love that song!!! XD
I'm currently working on a picture of Elsa, and i WILL post it when i'm done...

9. The Forsaken by Lisa M.Stasse

A friend lent me this book, and it is amazing!!
Here is the book synopsis by www.goodreads.com :
As an obedient orphan of the U.N.A. (the super-country that was once Mexico, the U.S., and Canada), Alenna learned at an early age to blend in and be quiet—having your parents taken by the police will do that to a girl. But Alenna can’t help but stand out when she fails a test that all sixteen-year-olds have to take: The test says she has a high capacity for brutal violence, and so she is sent to The Wheel, an island where all would-be criminals end up.

The life expectancy of prisoners on The Wheel is just two years, but with dirty, violent, and chaotic conditions, the time seems a lot longer as Alenna is forced to deal with civil wars for land ownership and machines that snatch kids out of their makeshift homes.
This book is a bit like a mix of Divergent and The Hunger Games! Please check it out! :)

10. What does 2013 say? (YouTube rewind)

I wont say anything here... the next post will be all about it! :)
