Sorry I didn’t post last week! I was pretty busy! This week I will do two videos in one post!

First of all, Yesterday, was supposed to be “THE END OF THE WORLD!!!”. Well, it’s obviously not. If you haven’t heard about it, well then, you must not watch any TV or talk to anybody. The ancient Mayan calendar has been going for thousands of years but I was supposed to end on 21st of December 2012. Some people created theories about the date being dooms day. The movie, ‘2012’, is about the world ending on this date. But, as you can see, the world hasn’t ended!

Here is the first video for this post. A group of people from New Zealand decided to try to teach three dogs, who didn’t have homes, to drive a mini. Sounds impossible? Next, I would like to show you a video of one of my favourite songs at the moment! The song is called ‘She wolf’ but it is best known as ‘falling to pieces’. It is by David Guetta and is sung by Sia. I love this video! It starts of like a normal video, but it ends up there is special things about this wolf! I love the music to this song. The singing is good, but it is the music that makes it my favourite song.



I will definitely post next week, don't you worry! I will also  do a post on Tuesday, because it will be CHRISTMAS!!! Aren't you excited???

Henri 2, Paw de Deux (Cat Video!!)

Hey!
I promised a funny cat video for this week, so here it is! One of my Facebook friends posted this video and I thought it was really funny. You may get a little bored at the beginning but it gets really funny at the end. This is the second video in the series.  Apparently this video won the Golden Kitty (a prize) through online voting in an inaugural Cat Video Festival. Everyone loves cat videos, but this festival showcases the best of the best!

Fitzy & Wippa- Battle Scars Parody

Hey!
In Australia, there is a radio station called NOVA. There is a particular show on NOVA which is hosted by Fitzy & Wippa (Ryan Fitzgerald & Micheal Wipfli) . Fitzy and Wippa have been doing parody's of hit songs including Battle scars by Guy Sebastian, Gangnam Style by PSY and We Are Never Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift. This is one of the parody's they did. It is to the song 'Battle Scars' and it is about Wippa's love for snacks! This song is absolutely hilarious!!!

We don't usually celebrate Halloween in Australia, but lots of people still get dressed up in costumes and have parties! I found this video and I thought it was pretty cool! It's a Halloween light show in sync to PSY's 'Gangnam Style'! I am posting early this week, so there will be no new post on Friday because I'm posting today! Also, my prayers are with those who are affected by hurricane 'Sandy'.

I know Pottermore came out last year, but, I would like to share it with those who haven't heard of it! I was very lucky and I won a chance to be one of the first million people to use the site! I had to find and catch 'The Magic Quill' which told you if you were magic. Pottermore is an interactive site, where you go through the books and you experience the story and you collect objects. You can boil potions, duel other witches and wizards, shop at Diagon Ally, Get sorted into a house, and play many other mini games in different parts of the books!

How far would you go for Fantastic Delites

Hey,
I saw this in a newspaper and so I looked it up. The Delight O Matic was a machine built to see how far people would go for a free box of Fantastic's Delites. The machine had funny challenges such as pressing a button 5000 time, doing a robot dance and hopping on one foot! This hilarious video shows people trying their hardest to get a free box of biscuits. There are other video as well! See you next week!

The Problems of Text Talk (I have a new profile pic!)

Hi,

A lot of the time when you go on Facebook or Twitter, people are always shortening their words to text talk (sms talk). Don’t you hate it when you get a text from a friend and you open it and it says:

“OMG did u c amy? Did u c wat shirt she ws wearn? The 1 Im wearn 4 da party looks gr8! K, g2g, cya!”

People are just shortening and misspelling words on purpose just because they are too lazy to talk properly. It’s not just kids and teens, but more and more adults are also doing it! Some kids get so used to speaking in abbreviation that they learn to use it in school work and real life things. It becomes a bad habit that they need to reverse.

I believe that if we continue that way, our country will eventually become unable to construct a sentence correctly without any abbreviations. So next time you go onto Facebook or Twitter or any other online communication method, please try to use your language correctly and respect it or one day in the far future our language may become a strangely spelled mess.

The meaning behind this picture is the glasses are Harry Potter glasses to show my interest in the HP series (I don't actually wear glasses) and the blue dress is because I'm in Ravenclaw!!! The glasses also make me look a bit nerdy, don't you think???

I also like anime which is why my picture is anime chibi. (chibi means small/child, so if you draw someone as chibi, it means you are drawing them really small and cute but still with some adult features.)

Nerdling's Trip to the Harry Potter Exhibition

As you already know from one of my previous posts, I am a massive Harry Potter fan! A couple of months ago my parents surprised me with a trip to Sydney to see the Harry Potter exhibition!

Going to the Harry Potter was one of the best experiences of my life! It was incredible to be in arm’s length of the costumes and props for the movies! Apart from objects from the movies, they also had two activities in which visitors can throw a Quaffle into Quiddich hoops and pull squealing mandrakes out of pots.

Once you are in the main queue, you have a photo taken in front of a green screen inside a gold frame. Once your group has come to the front, a staff member- usually hired for their native British accent-recites the rules (No photographs, No touching things, No using portkeys/apparition) and you are allowed in.

You do not have to rush; you can take your time because you do not need to be out at a certain time! But once you enter the shop you cannot go back into the exhibition. In the shop they had wands, clothing, jewelry (time turners), object replicas from the movies, pins, ‘Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans’ (they don’t really have every flavour), etc.

I came home with Luna Lovegood’s wand and a 24 carat gold plated time turner replica of Hermionie’s time turner in ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’.

Someone emailed me this video. I really liked it because it shows how news can get to people really quickly these days with our more advanced technology. People don't just hear or see news, They feel it. The news can spark emotion in the larger amounts of people creating debates, discussions and blogs/forums.
This is how we connect; we share ideas, we show our feelings on a particular topic.
I share these videos I enjoy to my views (if I have any) so they can enjoy themselves as well. I like spreading good feeling throughout large quantities of people with just one thing. It makes me feel as if I have changed the world in a way, doesn't matter how small, making it a better place.

Ed Sheeran - Lego House (Official Video)

Hello once again,

I was told by a friend to have a look at the music video for the song, ‘Lego House’ by Ed Sheeran.

Knowing I am the BIGGEST Harry Potter fan, she told me I should watch it because Rupert Grint (AKA Ron Weasley) is the main star of the film. I LOVED IT!!! The video is of Rupert lip-syncing the song. It is an entertaining video especially if you are a Harry Potter fan or a Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) fan.

Definition of a nerd...

According to the Macquarie dictionary second revision (published in 1987), the definition of a nerd is:

“Nerd- an idiot; a fool”

According to the Macquarie international English dictionary complete and unabridged edition (published in 2004), the definition of a nerd is:

“Nerd-

1.       An offensive term that deliberately insults somebody’s physical appearance or social skills. (slang insult)

2.       Somebody who is considered to be excessively interested in a subject or activity that is regarded as too technical or scientific. (often used in combination; offensive in some contexts)

Now everybody has their own opinion but here is my definition of nerd:

“An individual who doesn’t copy what other people are doing, and sometimes can be extremely technical or socially awkward.  People often stereotype the definition of the word ‘nerd’ as an unfashionable, scientific, social outcast.”

My definition of ‘nerdling’ is similar:

“An individual who believes in his/her own style, way or beliefs, which are usually different from others. Some times has an urge to prove themselves to others, to stand out or to show others their point of view.”

If there are any ‘nerds’ out there who are treated like the first two definitions, don’t despair, be yourself and maybe one day people will except you for who you are.

My first post...

My first post is dedicated to saying welcome to my blog. It is my first blog and I have been planning it for a while. Sorry if there are not many posts or things like that at the beginning, I am still learning how to use blogger!

This blog is to share my thoughts about nerds, the life of a nerd (me), and just anything about nerds or my interests.

I came about the idea of ‘nerdling in a cage’ because my school was doing a band competition a couple years ago. Me and a group of my friends wanted to do it so one lunch time we got together and thought about what to call ourselves, what song to do, and what instrument we would each play. We though up something about nerds (even though I was the one that was the nerdiest).  I was the main one who came up with the ‘nerdlings in a cage’ thing. We never entered the competition because we couldn’t work out what days to meet. (It was also too much hard work!)
